Want to get rid of a Queenslander?

I am constantly amazed by the amount of developments happening in Brisbane. So many Queenslander style homes torn down because developers are not aware of house removal. If you have an old home and are looking at building a new home there are a few things you need to consider before you organize demolition.

House Removalist’s will need a few months lead in time before they can move your house in order to get the appropriate permits etc. These permits will include Council approvals to remove the building, Main Roads approval to move the house, Telstra, Optus, Energex, Ergon Energy, Qld Rail just to name a few. In most cases, the House Removalist will require you to provide the Form 6 (approval for Demolition and Removal) and organize to remove the services (gas, power, sewer). None of this can be done overnight. Energex alone specify they want 21 working days to process the ‘Removal of Assets’ (if you can’t find this form, please download here Supply Abolish Energex)

House Removalists will also, in most cases, pay you for your house! It is quite often better to have the house removed as your site clean will then be smaller and cost you less. Sometimes it may be to your advantage to even give your house to the removalist to save the costs of full demolition.

Just remember though, most house removalists are booked out for 3-6 months in advance, you are better to lock into a contract with a house mover when you are at the early planning stages to avoid disappointment and unnecessary costs.
